Dr. Thomas Rajan has been a contributor to nephrology since 2009. He completed both his Internal Medicine Residency and Nephrology Fellowship at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine located in Worcester, Mass.
Nephrology runs in his family so to speak. Dr. Rajan’s brother is also a practicing nephrologist in the Waco area. Dr. Rajan was drawn to Nephrology because of the cerebral nature of this specialty.
He has been in the practice of medicine for more than 18 years. Over the years, Dr. Rajan has honed his clinical skills and has an excellent clinical sense. His approach to patients has always been in a holistic way. He tries his best to see the patient as a whole and not just as separate organs. Dr. Rajan strongly feels that kidney failure is usually a reflection of the overall health of a patient. He loves to spend time with patients and answer all their questions. Dr. Rajan says the best care occurs when the patients are empowered with the right knowledge. This is one of the only specialties where the patient develops strong bonds especially when they become dialysis dependant. Dr. Rajan strongly believes that even after the patient goes on dialysis the patients need to continue to work closely with their primary care physicians. His general approach to patient care is “don’t do things on others you don’t want done on yourself.”
Dr. Rajan’s practice is wide open as he works hard at building a referral base. He is accepting new patients all the time. Dr. Rajan is committed to an excellent experience for his patients from the moment they step into his office and takes seriously the complaints brought to his attention.
Dr. Rajan worked as attending Nephrologists in New Jersey for three years while his wife completed her Hematology and Oncology fellowship at Robert wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Rajan moved to Texas to be closer to his brother who lives in the Waco area. His parents and two other brothers still live in Massachusetts – one is a practicing anesthesiologist and the other is a dentist. Dr. Rajan has two children: Rebecca and Joshua, who will be in kindergarten and 3rd grade, respectively.
